Legendary premiership winning AFL player Michael O’Loughlin has embarked on a new career in the corporate sector with a focus on helping indigenous Australians find meaningful work.
The 20-year Sydney Swans veteran and All-Australian player takes the reins as Managing Director of CMC Indigenous Services, a commercial cleaning and property maintenance company. CMC delivers an integrated service including contract cleaning, maintenance services, soft services and waste management.
2015 Australian of the Year and dual Brownlow Medallist Adam Goodes has been appointed CMC ambassador.
The launch of CMC Indigenous Services coincided with last week’s AFL Indigenous Round – which focused on the outstanding contribution indigenous players have made to AFL. Michael and Adam were at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday night to present the Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal for the Best On Ground player in the Sydney Swans v North Melbourne clash.
CMC Indigenous Services has a mission to strengthen partnerships between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians through engagement, understanding, encouragement and active involvement. It already has secured one Government cleaning contract.
“We believe that through our Pathways Program we can find reconciliation, understanding and the ability to work together and prosper in the areas of Education, Engagement, Employment and Opportunity,” Mr O’Loughlin said.
“We have set high employment targets and will engage directly with local communities. We are supporting other indigenous businesses through our supply chain and through the guidance of our ambassador, Adam Goodes.”
“Through hard work, dedication, a strong work ethic and our significant contacts in the Indigenous communities of Australia, I know we can make a real difference to people’s lives and achieve great things,” added Mr O’Loughlin.
CMC Indigenous Services currently has a 34% Indigenous workforce and is Supply Nation certified given its majority indigenous ownership.
